MAX BLAIR TOPS ERIEZ RECORD 52-CAR FIELD FOR 3RD HOVIS RUSH LATE MODEL FLYNN'S TIRE TOURING SERIES VICTORY OF 2023; $29,500 IN VALUABLE PRODUCTS AWARDED FOR "MANUFACTURERS NIGHT" PRESENTED BY MSD

By Mike Leone

August 27, 2023               FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Erie, PA)...The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Dirt Late Model Series presented by Born2Run Lubricants headed to Eriez Speedway on a beautiful, fall-like Sunday evening for the second and final appearance by the Flynn's Tire Touring Series in 2023.  An all-time Eriez record 52 cars turned out for the 12th annual "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance as $29,500 in valuable products were given away to competing racers!  Race #17 attracted the second highest car count of the season behind the 56 at Lernerville Speedway for the $20,000 to-win "Bill Emig Memorial".

Taking advantage of a night off from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Max Blair returned to his roots on Sunday night competing not far from home in a RUSH Late Model and led all 30 laps of the feature event holding off a valiant effort by track standout Jason Genco.  Blair earned $3,000 for his third Flynn's Tire Touring Series victory of the season, and also received a $300 gift certificate from Insinger Performance, two fuel jugs from Precise Racing Products, and a sheet of aluminum of Wieland during the manufacturers drawings.  Blair is now a perfect seven-for-seven in Flynn's Tire Touring Series events held all-time at Eriez!

"I love racing here and try coming every chance I get- it's home and always will be," acknowledged the 33-year-old Centerville, Pa. winner.  "I love seeing all the Blair shirts in the stands and still even love the few boos.  That was a lot of fun.  I wasn't sure exactly where to be on the race track.  I felt better a little higher up there, but thought as long as I protected the bottom I didn't think I would be passed.  I was trying to be as cautious as I could, but with lapped traffic you just never know.  I know how good Jason (Genco) has been all year up here so when I saw he was second on that one restart I knew I had to step my game up and not make any mistakes.  I saw a glimpse of him out of turn four that one time in traffic so I knew I had to go then."

Blair took off in the lead, while fourth starting Brad Mesler passed Chad Homan and Joe Martin to quickly take over second.  Genco started sixth and was already halfway to the front after two laps moving past Martin.  Following a caution for Breyton Santee and Jim Rasey with four laps completed, Jeremy Wonderling moved up to fourth dropping Martin back another spot.

By lap six, the top four of Blair, Mesler, Genco, and Wonderling began to distance themselves from the field.  Genco applied heavy pressure to Mesler as the two raced side-by-side for second, but couldn't complete the pass until lap 10 with Wonderling following in third one lap later.  Following a caution for a spin by Mike Wonderling, Mesler slowed with a flat tire on lap 12 and several cars got stacked up on the backstretch with David Parker and Mike Wonderling sustaining the heaviest damage.  Mesler was chosen as the TBM Brakes "Tough Brake of the Night" recipient, and also received a custom Late Model wrap from 3C Graphix valued at $765!

That was the final caution of the event as the last 19 laps went green-to-checkered.  Blair and Genco pulled away from the field at the halfway point and those two would battle for the lead to the finish.  Lapped traffic came into play on lap 23, but Blair navigated it perfectly.  Genco tried everything to get by and at times appeared to have the faster car, but Blair hit his marks perfectly and didn't let traffic deter him.  Blair took the checkered flag first by 0.331 seconds for his all-time leading 32nd career Flynn's Tire Touring Series victory.  Blair has now won two of his three starts in the Centerline Motorsports-owned, Gable Inn/Lakeside Beer/Mailliard Electric Company/Krebs Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM-sponsored #00K including $20,000 at Lernerville on June 24, while he also won on April 13 at Georgetown Speedway in a Briggs Transport #1 entry.

Genco's runner-up was worth $1,500 matching his best Tour finish since May 14, 2022 at Stateline Speedway; however, Genco has finished in the top four in eight of his nine Tour starts over the past two years!  Genco also won two RUSH Hoosier Tires and a Racing Electronics Receiver Pro and case during the manufacturers drawings for an additional $566 value.

"We had a run that one time with that lapped car out there but it closed up to the wall a little too quick and I didn't want to wreck the hell of out racers so I thought better of it," revealed the 39-year-old Frewsburg, NY driver of the Jimmy Craig/Jason Badgley #29J.  "There's no shame to run second to him (Blair).  It looked like he had (RUSH Hoosier) 25s on so I was biding me time hoping he'd slow down some, but he's so smooth in lapped traffic.  I want to thank Vicki (Emig) and Mike (Leone) for the Manufacturers Night- it's pretty cool what they give back to us racers."

Eight-time 2023 winner, Jeremy Wonderling, was third for his 13th top five in 17 starts as he's closing in on his fourth Series title.  After a tough stretch, Martin recorded his fourth top four finish in the last six events, and also won one of the top prizes, which was a 4150 LTS Aluminum Ultra 650 CFM Holley Carburetor valued at $1,184!  Super Late Model standout, Dave Hess, Jr., made his first ever RUSH start and went 13th to 5th aboard John Lacki's #7.

Kyle Zimmerman made just his third Eriez start of the year and only second in Flynn's Tire Tour racing and went 10th in to 6th in Jonathan Stockdale's #31.  Homan dropped to seventh.  Tour regular Cody Dawson was eighth over Billy Henry, Jr.  Mike Knight raced from 18th to 10th in Stephen Blodgett's #23GP.  Khole Wanzer took an Eriez provisional and finished 14th after starting 26th to earn the $50 Precise Racing Products "Pedal Down"  Hard Charger gift card.  Tour regular Jim Rasey was 17th and received a spoiler kit from Ontime Body & Graphic.

Craig Graham, who won two RUSH Hoosier Tires and a Racing Electronics Receiver Pro and case valued at $566 during the manufacturers drawings in addition to a $100 Performance Bodies gift card for being the "Nosed Out" recipient, ended the night by leading all 10 laps of the D&V Jewelers Non-Qualifier.  The second year Flynn's Tire Tour regular captured his first checkered flag, which was worth $200, as he came the amazing 70th different winner in 86 "Wheelman" Bonus Event Challenge Series events run all-time!

The 50-year-old Orono, Ontario, Canada driver of his own Full Circle Automation/Arcade Pools/Goat Transport/DTI Infrastructure/Beavis Excavating/PJ Larkin Salvage-sponsored #98 took the checkered flag first by 2.346 seconds over Jacob Peterson, who recorded his season's best Non-Qualifier finish in four starts.  Gary Young was third.  Wesley McCray made his first ever Tour start and was fourth in addition to winning a full custom drivers suit from Velocita-USA valued at $1,100!  Darrin Waldron completed the top five.

In his first ever Eriez start, Mesler earned his second $100 FK Rod Ends "Shock the Clock" honors of the season turning a lap of 16.606 over the 52-car field in qualifying.  Picking up $25 FK Rod End heat race victories were Mesler, Martin, Blair, Jeremy Wonderling, Genco, and Homan.  The three last chance B mains were won by Santee, Colby Beighey, and Ashton Briggs.  Blair received a $100 Sunoco fuel card for winning the Sunoco Dash.  The $100 Sunoco fuel card random draw winners for Tour racers went to Jeremy Wonderling and Brandt Graham, while the $50 Sunoco fuel card winners were Kurt Stebbins, Gary Youngs, Dan Lepro, and Hess.

The Flynn’s Tire Touring Series will return to action this Sunday night (September 3) for the second and final appearance of the season at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia.  Race #18 of 2023 will pay $4,000 to-win and will be part of the "Hillbilly 100" with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
