HOVIS RUSH LATE MODEL FLYNN'S TIRE GUNTER'S HONEY TOUR HOPING 3RD TIME IS A
CHARM FOR "BILL LAW MEMORIAL" SATURDAY AT STATELINE BEFORE MOVING ON TO TRI-CITY
ON SUNDAY
By Mike Leone
May 20, 2026 FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)...The
Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Dirt Late Models presented by Born2Run Lubricants
will try again this weekend with a doubleheader of Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey
Touring Series events. Saturday night (May 23) at
Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY is the twice
rained out "Bill Law Memorial" followed 50 miles south at Tri-City Raceway Park
in Franklin, Pa. on Sunday evening (May 24). Both races will pay $4,000
to-win.
The "Bill Law
Memorial" returns to Stateline for the ninth time on Saturday night.
Saturated grounds on May 9 forced the postponement to May 16; however,
several rounds of rain late afternoon and early evening proved too much for the
track crew to overcome and led to another postponement to this Saturday night.
Saturday night's blockbuster event will also feature the Super Late
Models in action for $5,000 to-win!
In 2011, Law was
diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and passed away in July 2012. Law's
involvement in racing began in the late 1970s as he loved having muscle cars and
going to the drag strip in his high school days. Even though he never actually
raced, he stood behind racing 100%. In the early 1980s, Law and Leon Szweda put
an asphalt car together and raced at New York's Holland Speedway.
Law's taste for racing moved to the dirt tracks in the mid-1980s as he helped
Tom Taber for several years. He met a lot of great people that he became very
good friends with; one was Bob "The Bird" Baldwin. The Law Family traveled with
him and his family racing from Pennsylvania to West Virginia to Maryland.
As Bill's son Jon was getting older, they got involved in Go-Kart racing as the
family would travel all over New York and Pennsylvania. Bill was still involved
in auto racing as they would race Go-Karts during the day and sell parts and
fuel at night at the races. As Jon got older, Bill bought him an IMCA
Modified. A few seasons later, Jon and Bill bought a Limited Late Model.
That lasted a couple years until Jon was starting his own family and got away
from the racing scene.
Law was the first
person to have a Crate Late Model in the region when the class debuted in 2007
in the Northeast. Law had several drivers over the years behind the wheel
of his #14 including Baldwin, Ward Schell, Rich Gardner, Jon Law, Curt VanPelt,
David Scott, and Kyle Scott. Bill's grandson, Kyle Murray, has raced RUSH
Late Models over the years. With the Scott Family owning Stateline for the
first seven years, it was always fitting the "Bill Law Memorial" took place at
their track as Jean and Jim Scott's son David and grandson Kyle drove for Law.
The 2017 event was
the first ever Tour event at Stateline in the history of Chevrolet Performance
Late Models in the Northeast as a big crowd watched a thriller as Jeremy
Wonderling held off standout and track dominator Max Blair for the victory.
Damian Bidwell made a late race pass of Scott Gurdak for his first Tour win in
more than three years in the 2018 show. In 2019, Wonderling again held off
Blair after withstanding a mid-race rain delay. The COVID-19 pandemic
cancelled the 2020 event. Wonderling was victorious again in 2021 topping
a Stateline record 43-car field. Joe Martin won his first career Stateline
race in 2022 after waiting out an hour and a half rain delay. In 2023,
Wonderling won the event for the fourth time in six years. Eventual Tour
Champion, Brock Pinkerous, won in 2024. Last year saw Blair win over a
Stateline record 49 cars in what was the Tour's season opener.
For the second
straight season, Stateline will host multiple Tour events. Last year, 2016
champion, Bryce Davis, was victorious in the summer show. This year's second
event will take place on July 4.
Sunday will mark the first of two appearances by the Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey
Tour at Tri-City Raceway Park. The
half-mile Venango County oval has a new surface in 2026, which debuted last
Friday night at their long-awaited opener and received rave reviews.
Sunday is a Platinum Event allowing teams to throw out a prior worst
finish or use the event to replace a missed Marquee Event.
Sunday will also include a Modified doubleheader with the RUSH Sportsman
and the BRP Big-Block Modified Tour.
In May 2024, Tri-City hosted the return of the Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Tour
event for the first time in six years! The event was won by Brock Pinkerous,
who celebrated his first career Tour win in Landrum Performance Springs Victory
Lane. Pinkerous went on to win the $20,000 championship. Last year saw Daryl
Charlier end a three-year winless drought with a dominating performance in the
Memorial Day weekend event, while Kyle Hardy won the Labor Day weekend event in
his first ever visit.
The Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series has made 10 nine visits to
Tri-City all-time with seven of them occurring from 2015-2018. Max Blair and
Mike Pegher, Jr. each have won a pair of events, while single victories have
gone to Bryce Davis, Jeremy Wonderling, Brady Wonderling, Pinkerous, Charlier,
and Hardy.
"This turned out to be a good pairing of a doubleheader weekend for race teams
and fans," acknowledged RUSH Director Vicki Emig.
"We have to thank Bill Catania of Stateline and the Law Family for their
willingness to continue to try and complete this event.
The Shiffer Family at Tri-City have been a strong supporter of RUSH as
they host our RUSH Sprint Cars and RUSH Stock Cars on a weekly basis along with
a pair of Tour events for our RUSH Late Models and events for the RUSH Sportsman
Modifieds."
In addition to Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Touring Series points being awarded,
Colussy Chevrolet National Weekly Series points will also be on the line as well
at both tracks. At Stateline, RUSH
Track Pack points will also be awarded as $2,500 will be shared amongst the top
six drivers in RUSH Weekly Series member points at the conclusion of the
season. Stateline has still been unable to complete a RUSH Late Model show this
season.
Sandwiched between rainouts at Pittsburgh and Winchester Speedways, Georgetown
Speedway opened the 2026 Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Tour on April 24 in the
return to the Sussex County oval for the first time in more than three
years. Hardy won the $5,000 to-win event over local Derek Magee. It was the
2021 Series Champion's 15th career Tour victory.
Last Sunday, five-time Series Champion, Jeremy Wonderling won his third
Eriez Tour event in the last six races.
Thirty-nine cars were on hand.
$100 "Shock the Clock" Qualifying and $25 to-win heat races will be presented by
FK Rod Ends. The Sunoco Dash will set the beginning rows of the feature
lineup and will award the winner a $100 Sunoco fuel gift card. The
"Fill'er up with Sunoco Bucks" program co-presented by Bazell Race Fuels will
include an additional $400 of Sunoco fuel card giveaways; two $100 random draws
for drivers in the top 15 of 2025 Tour points and another four $50 random draws
for all other competitors each night.
Hoosier Tire Western PA/Big Daddy's Speed Center will award a $100 gift card for
the "Pedal Down" Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature. Close
Racing Supply will award a $100 gift card for the driver chosen as the "Tough

spoiler kit to the third place finisher on night one and the fourth place

each night. There will also be five BOGO Landrum Performance Springs
certificates given away through drawings each night.
