BUSY WEEKEND FOR SWEENEY RUSH LM WITH “BILL EMIG MEMORIAL” SUNDAY AT TRI-CITY FOR INSINGER/SUNOCO NORTHERN TOUR & MONDAY AT WAYNE COUNTY FOR BAZELL/SUNOCO SOUTHERN TOUR

By Mike Leone

June 17, 2015               FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)...One week after the inaugural “Crate Racin’ USA Nationals” at Winchester Speedway, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Series will pick right back up with a busy two-race weekend.  Sunday (June 21) will feature the “Bill Emig Memorial” for the Insinger Performance/Sunoco Race Fuels Northern Tour at Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pa., and then on Monday (June 22) Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio will host a Bazell/Sunoco Southern Tour event.

For the first time ever, Tri-City Raceway Park will host the annual “Bill Emig Memorial”.  This year’s event will feature a $2,000 to-win feature along with $100 Bobby Lake Motorsports “Shock the Clock” Qualifying, and $25 to-win heat races in addition to the $100 to-win K&N Cold Air Induction “John Buzzard Memorial” Dash.  One driver could earn $2,225 with a clean sweep of the night!

Sunday’s event at Tri-City marks the return of racing to the big half-mile oval for the first time in four years under the new ownership of Mark Tatalovic and management by his son Sam along with Chad Wagner.

“Bringing my dad's Memorial to Tri-City on Father's Day is really special and completes the circle of regional speedways where his cars competed throughout the years that have hosted the event,” explained RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “I know if he was here today he would tell you that some of his greatest memories as a car owner were watching Lou Gentile battle against the V-8 powered semi-lates with the six-cylinder on the big half-mile against the likes of Lou Steadman, Les Myers, Mark Weaver and many more.  His cars won numerous feature events and track championships at Tri-City in both the Semi-Late and Six-Cylinder Modified divisions with the  highlight being 1978 Semi-Late Track Championship.”

Past “Bill Emig Memorial” winners in the Crate Late Models include Chad McClellan (Lernerville) & Rick Singleton (Sharon) in 2014, Mike Pegher, Jr. (Lernerville) & Ryan Montgomery (Sharon) in 2013, Max Blair (won bon events at Sharon) in 2012, and Max Blair (Lernerville) & Josh Holtgraver (Sharon) in 2011.

On Monday, the Sweeney RUSH Late Models will join up with Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars in the 33rd Annual Ohio Speedweek event at Wayne County Speedway.  Wayne County is in its first year of running the RUSH Late Models on a weekly basis, and have completed three events with Charlie Duncan victorious twice and Pennsylvania racer Dennis Lunger, Jr. once.  Wayne County scheduled a RUSH Tour event last year over Labor Day Weekend with the All Stars, but that event was rained out.

Monday’s event marks the first of three appearances by the Bazell/Sunoco Southern Tour at Wayne County- all paying $1,500 to-win .  The Series returns to Orrville, Ohio in a couple weeks on Saturday, July 4 for the Sweeney/Pace GM Engine Giveaway then again with the All Stars on Sunday, September 6.

“We have to thank Jason and Kristin Flory for allowing RUSH to be showcased at their big events,” stated RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone.  “They are doing their best to introduce Crate Late Model racing to the fans and racers of Ohio.  The Speedweek event is always run in front of a huge crowd so this will be great opportunity for our racers in a new market.  Wayne County is located only hour and a half from Pennsylvania, so we hope some of our Pennsylvania teams make the trip over.”

The Sweeney RUSH Series has completed seven Tour events to date so far with three in the North and four in the South.  Max Blair of Centerville, Pa. leads the way with three victories, while Walker Arthur swept the "Mid-Atlantic States Classic" weekend at Potomac and Winchester last month.  Bryce Davis won the “Ron Baker Memorial” at Freedom earlier this month, and Allen Brannon won over $6,000 last weekend at Winchester.  Blair of course leads both Tour points and the combined points.  He'll look to keep the lead in all three points in his bid for the $10,000 sweep.

The K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash will be run each night.  Sunday’s Dash will be the “John Buzzard Memorial” paying $100 in cash with runner-up receiving a $100 K&N certificate, third place a $50 K&N certificate, with fourth place receiving an extra $25 cash.  The Dash will determine the first four starting spots in the feature.   Buzzard was a former racer for the late Emig, who lost his life in an accident at Expo Speedway in 1975.  Some of his greatest moments in racing came at Sharon on the blacktop as he was part of the famous weekly David and Goliath battles that pitted his Emig Ford six-cylinder against the V-8 powered Chevrolet of Jim Lewis out of Cleveland, Ohio.  Their exciting duals resulted in Buzzard and Lewis being named co-champions of Sharon’s 1973 Stock Car Division.

Monday’s K&N Dash will be run for the four drivers that finish outside of the feature redraw spots and will pay $100 K&N certificate to win, $50 K&N certificate for second with $25 cash going to the third and fourth place finishers.

Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the "Pedal Down" Hard Charger that passes the most cars in both Sunday and Monday's A feature.  The TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate for a discount off any TBM Brakes purchase each night.

Each night, RUSH Officials will choose the "Maxima Performance" Award for a driver that exhibits a performance worthy of such.  The winner will receive a free case of either Maxima Semi-Syn High Performance Racing Oil or Maxima Performance Racing Oil of your choice.  In addition, the winner will receive one can of SC-1 clear coat, one 16-oz bottle of Maxima Cool-Aide concentrate, one 32-oz quart of Maxima PSF power steering fluid, and a Maxima t-shirt.  The value of this prize package is $170!
