CAREER 1ST RUSH LATE MODEL WINS FOR CHUCK BOWIE,  JAKOB PIPER & BILLY THOMPSON; CASWELL WINS 1ST AT FULTON; 3-IN-A-ROW FOR CHARLIER AT PPMS

(Pulaski, PA)...A weekend of Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Racing Series powered by Pace Performance doubleheaders got underway on Friday night in Conneaut, Ohio at Raceway 7.  In RUSH Late Model action, Dave Airgood picked up his first Raceway 7 win of the season, holding off a strong field of 18 competitors that included Darrell Bossard, Matt Latta, Breyton Santee and Joe Long, all in the top five.

 

A strong field of 19 RUSH Sportsman Modifieds were on hand as well for their first appearance since 2014. A spirited battle between an increasingly talented field of drivers saw Justin Shea hold off Kyle Martell, Garrett Krummert, Kole Holden and Chas Wolbert.

 

Chad Homan won his second of the season on Friday night at Outlaw Speedway.  Jason Knowles topped his brother Brian Knowles for second, while Steve LeBarron and newcomer Jamie Freeman completed the top five.  The Dundee, New York oval is off this Friday night, but will return to racing on June 29.

 

Friday night in RUSH Pro Stock action at Lernerville Speedway, Corey McPherson drew the pole position for the 20-lap feature event at the Sarver, Pennsylvania oval and sailed through clean air to secure his second win of the 2018 campaign. The win, coming on Mid-Season Championship night, gives McPherson a guaranteed starting position in the "Autumn-Motive Fest", the premier race for the division on the season schedule.  The pilot of the C33 held off Tyler Dietz, Joey Zambotti, Mark Sanders and Noah Brunell. After a couple of weeks off, the RUSH Pro Stock return to action at Lernerville on July 6.

 

At Maryland’s Potomac Speedway on Friday night, Chuck Bowie finally broke through with his first win in the RUSH Late Model division. "We've been in this class for two years now and we've been close to getting one a few times, I guess tonight was finally our night." Bowie said in victory lane. Bowie held off challenges from Darren Alvey on his way to his first win. Alvey settled for second.  Megan Mann was a career best third with Darin Henderson and Jamie Sutphin completing the top-five.

 

Another RUSH doubleheader took place on Saturday night at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway as the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds joined their sister division, the RUSH Dirt Late Models. In the Sportsman Modifieds, Garrett Krummert made it two in a row at PPMS after winning last Saturday night as well. Krummert took his #10S to victory over Chas Wolbert, Jeff Schaffer, Jr., Kole Holden and Justin Shea.  The RUSH Sportsman Modifieds return to PPMS on July 7.

 

In the weekly RUSH Dirt Late Models, the #12C of Daryl Charlier powered into the lead over a strong field of drivers including Ben Policz, Justin Lamb, Christian Schneider and  Mike Reft and never looked back for his third straight week.  After a week off for a monster truck show, the racing returns to PPMS on June 30th.

 

Saturday night at Fulton Speedway, Dale Caswell took a commanding lead late in the RUSH Late Model race and won by half a straightaway for his season's first win over Jason Parkhurst, Chris Fleming, Bret Belden and Jason Occhino. Racing action returns to Fulton on June 30 after a week off, while the RUSH Late Models will race again on Friday night at sister speedway, Brewerton.

 

Saturday night at Winchester Speedway, Jakob Piper took the victory in the makeup feature for his first career win over Levi Crowl, Darin Henderson, Transton Stoner and Chuck Bowie. In the regularly scheduled event, Transton Stoner picked up his season's first win with Mike Franklin, Levi Crowl, Tanner Kerr and Bowie once again rounding out the top five. Racing action continues this Saturday at Winchester.

 

In Strongstown, Pennsylvania’s Dog Hollow Speedway on Saturday, Clate Copeman picked up his second win of the season in the RUSH Late Models.  Joe Moyer and Mike Laughard challenged Copeman through the caution-filled event, but Copeman held on for the win over Laughard, Moyer, Colin Casale, Troy Shields and John Britsky.  After a couple of weeks off the schedule, the RUSH Late Models return to Dog Hollow on a special holiday show on Tuesday, July 3.

 

Saturday night at Delaware International Speedway, Billy Thompson won the 20-lap RUSH Late Model Delaware State Championship Qualifier, earning a guaranteed starting position for the Fall event. Thompson drove a flawless race, holding off the likes of Jimmy Jesmer, Brandon Sturgis, Joe Warren and Sparky White. Saturday night at Delaware, the racing action returns with a five division show and an added make up RUSH Late Model feature from May 12th.

 

Saturday night in Batavia, New York’s Genesee Speedway, David Pangrazio picked up his second feature win of the season in the RUSH Late Model division. The Elba, New York driver dominated the 25-lap feature event, masterfully negotiating lapped traffic along the way. A white flag lap caution put Jason Genco on Pangrazio’s rear bumper for the restart, but the win was all Pangrazio’s. Genco would settle for second, while Bill Holmes moved by Jon Rivers on the final lap for fourth.  JJ Mazur rounded out the top five. It’s back to racing this Saturday night at Genesee with a full program.

 

Saturday night at Smethport, Pennsylvania’s McKean County Family Raceway, Brad Mesler held off a stacked field of seasoned RUSH Late Model veterans for second win of the year. Mesler bested Damian Bidwell, Paul Grigsby, Kyle Zimmerman and Brady Wonderling.

 

In RUSH Asphalt Racing action at Jennerstown Speedway, eleventh starting Barry Awtey once again came away victorious in the RUSH sanctioned Late Models! One of the best drivers to ever turn a lap at the storied Somerset County, PA paved oval, Awtey made it three in a row on Saturday night besting some of the best in the business including Gary Wiltrout, Mike Hemminger, Jeremiah Kuntz and Rick Boyer. In the RUSH Asphalt Modifieds, Anthony Aiello emerged victorious over Gary Scott, Tom Golik, Mike Carlson and Jim Bodziak. Finally, in the RUSH sanctioned Street Stock division, it was Aaron VanFleet over Rick Meehleib, Mel Wilt, Josh Coughenour and Jeremy Shaffer. This Saturday, June 23rd, the three RUSH divisions will join the nationally televised Xtreme Sprint Car Tour.

 

Sunday night at Old Bradford Speedway, the RUSH Late Models finally completed their first event of the season as Damian Bidwell picked up the win. Bidwell bested Brad Mesler, Scott Gurdak, Jeff Hoffman and Andy Michael. In the RUSH Pro Mods, Steve Dixon won out over Chad Carlson, Dennis Lunge, Justin Carlson and Adam Peterson.  No RUSH Late Models this coming Sunday, but the Pro Mods will be in action.

 

The final doubleheader of the weekend was held at Franklin, Pennsylvania’s Tri-City Raceway Park, the site of the annual "Bill Emig Memorial". The race, which honor’s the patriarch of Emig Racing and father of RUSH Racing Series Co-Director Vicki Emig, was joined by the all new RUSH Sprint Cars.

 

In the Late Models, Brady Wonderling pulled off the win and stood in the same victory lane as his brother Jeremy just one year before. Besides the feature, Brady Wonderling also ran off with the best qualifying time and a heat race win. "What a nice race track," expressed the 42-year-old Scio, NY driver.  "If we could race on stuff like this all the time it would be awesome.” Wonderling took the win over dash winner Jason Genco, brother Jeremy, JJ Mazur and Adam Ferri. In Wingless Sprint action, Arnie Kent took the win over Chad Ruhlman, Zach Morrow, Dave Hawkins and Dalton Daniels. Tri City’s next event will be the Summer Sizzler which include the RUSH Wingless Sprints and Sportsman Modifieds.

 

Sharon, Stateline and Humberstone Speedways all get back to action this weekend.
