June 29, 2018             FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…
The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series powered by Pace Performance heads back to the Empire State for the second time this season in the first ever visit to the state-of-the-art Weedsport Speedway on Tuesday (July 3).  Race #8 of 19 will make history for the Series' first ever televised event and first nationally televised Crate Late Model race.  The event will air on MAVTV on August 23 at 7 and 10 p.m. and will also be available on SpeedSport.TV.  Sunoco Race Fuels distributed by Insinger Performance is presenting the broadcast, while Alternative Power Sources, Close Racing Supply, and CrateInsider.com are segment sponsors.

"Weedsport has been one of the most requested speedways to add to our Touring Series schedule for several years," stated RUSH Director Vicki Emig.  "Standout Big-Block Modified racer, Jimmy Phelps, who is the promoter of Weedsport had interest this winter in bringing RUSH to Weedsport and made the TV deal happen.  We couldn't be more excited to make our debut at Weedsport on the eve of Independence Day and showcase our Series and racers on MAVTV!  Weedsport hosts World of Outlaws, USAC, All Stars, and Super DIRTcar events to name a few so we're proud to be able to take RUSH there.  Weedsport is located right off the New York State Thruway about 30 miles west of Syracuse.  We're expecting a lot of racers from that region to make their Touring debut."

“We’re excited to have the RUSH Dirt Late Models as a part of our Sportsman Classic program,” said Jimmy Phelps.  “The series provides fantastic action and it will fit perfectly alongside our DIRTcar Sportsman and the NY6A Micro Sprints.  Join that with the opportunity to put the Late Models on national TV through Weedsport Productions and it is shaping up to be a great day on July 3.”

Jeremy Wonderling leads the Sweeney Tour to Weedsport on Tuesday with an 18-point lead over Jason Genco.  Wonderling, of Wellsville, NY, has been strong of late reeling off three podium finishes in the past four events, but is still searching for his first win of the season.  Genco, who is in his first year on the Tour, has also been on a roll with three straight top four finishes including a win on June 2 at Genesee.  Jeremy's brother Brady is also in his first year full-time with the Tour.  Brady drives Randy Ralyea's #z1 and is fresh off his first career Sweeney Tour win at the last event at Tri-City on June 17.  After three finishes outside the top 10 to start the year, Brady has strung together four straight top nine finishes.

Jason Knowles, who pilots the #4, is fourth in points as the top four are all from the Empire State.  Canadian Adam Ferri ran second for most of the Tri-City race before dropping to fifth following a late race restart- nonetheless it was his career best finish.  J.J. Mazur is another NY driver that's currently sixth in points.  "Futures Cup" racer, Cory Lawler, is the first Pennsylvania driver in points in seventh after three straight top 10 finishes.  Completing the top 12 points paying positions are John Waters, Bill Kessler, Max Blair, Darrell Bossard, and Damian Bidwell.

FK Rod Ends will award $100 to the driver that sets fast time and also $25 to each heat race winner.  Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the "Pedal Down" Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature.  The TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate for a discount off any TBM Brakes purchase.

RUSH Late Model Series Officials will also determine the new Dirt Defender "Defensive Drive" to the driver that best defended his position throughout the night, and will receive a $40 product package.  The award could go to a driver holding off another for the final heat race or B main transfer position, a driver denying a hard charging racer a feature win, a move to stay on the lead lap before a caution, or any such deserving move.

The new Independence Day-themed apparel will be available on Tuesday.  Following Weedsport, the Sweeney Tour will be at Expo Speedway for the annual Trumbull County Fair race on Wednesday, July 11 in a $1,500 to-win Platinum event.  Racing starts early at 6.
