JEREMY WONDERLING WINS A BARNBURNER IN FRONT OF A RAUCOUS GENESEE COUNTY FAIR CROWD FOR 2ND STRAIGHT $4,000 HOVIS RUH LATE MODEL FLYNN’S TIRE/GUNTER TOUR VICTORY

(Batavia, NY)...After rain washed out the Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Touring Series Memorial Day weekend events each of the last two years at The Dirt Track at Genesee, the cars and stars of the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Late Models presented by Born2Run Lubricants returned to the Batavia, NY 1/3-mile oval for the first time in more than two years on a beautiful fall-like Tuesday night.  A large crowd was on had part of the Genesee County Fair, which was the first time a RUSH Tour event was the featured attraction at the Fair in seven years!  It was just race #7 of the rain-plagued season.       

 

Jeremy Wonderling passed Chad Homan on lap nine then fended off fellow Empire State standout over the remainder of the 30-lap feature including a tense two-lap shootout to the finish that saw 2021 Series Champion Kyle Hardy join the fray in front of a raucous crowd.  After being shutout of Landrum Performance Springs victory lane for the last eight Tour events dating back to last season, Wonderling has now won two straight and joined Max Blair as the season’s only repeat winners.  The $4,000 victory extended the 45-year-old Wellsville, NY driver’s points lead in the race for the $20,000 championship.

 

Homan and David Pangrazio led the 26-car starting field to green following the Dave Poske’s Performance Parts “Feel the RUSH” 4-Wide Salute with Homan taking the early advantage over Pangrazio.  Wonderling started fourth and passed Austin Allen for third on lap two then raced side-by-side with Pangrazio for the next two laps before making the pass around the topside of the speedway. 

 

As the laps were ticking off without a caution, Wonderling closed on Homan on lap six and caught the leader on lap seven.  The two then raced side-by-side for the lead on laps seven and eight with Wonderling once again making the outside lane work for what would be the winning pass.  A trio of cautions slowed action between laps 9-11. 

 

Bryce Davis had passed Pangrazio for third on lap 10 and when racing resumed the duo resumed their battle as they raced side-by-side for the show position.  On lap 18, Pangrazio regained the spot before Jacob Wilber broke and wasn’t able to safety make it far enough into the infield bringing out the caution with 19 laps scored.  Eyes began to focus on Hardy, who was making his way forward from the 13th starting spot.  Hardy had raced up to sixth before the caution then passed both Allen and Davis to claim fourth when racing resumed on lap 20.

 

Up front, Wonderling and Homan quickly distanced themselves from the pack by lap 21, while Hardy began to pressure Davis for third.  Paul Grigsby spun in turn four and slowly was trying to get into the infield, but the caution was displayed setting up a two-lap shootout to the checkered flag. 

 

Back under green on lap 29, Homan stayed with Wonderling on the restart and it was nearly three-wide in turn two as Hardy tried to stick his nose into the fray.  Wonderling maintained the lead over Homan and Hardy and the trio battled throughout the final lap with Wonderling having the momentum off the top to take the win by just 0.428 seconds over Homan with Hardy just another 0.252 seconds back.  Wonderling’s 28th career Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Touring Series win came in the Close Racing Supply/Cummings Trucking/Shuttleworth Auto Sales/955 Automotive/Penske Shocks by JDS/Swift Springs-sponsored #3J.

 

Homan, who had run only two RUSH City Chevrolet Weekly Series events in 2025, earned $2,000 in his first Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Tour start of the season.  Homan’s first and only career Tour victory came at Genesee back on May 28, 2022.

 

In his first season back on the Tour full-time since his championship season in 2021, Hardy’s third place finish was his first podium effort of the season and earned $1,000 to maintain the runner-up spot in points.  Hardy joined Wonderling and Homan receiving a three-pack of Heritage Wine Cellars premium product.

 

Davis matched his season’s best finish from opening night in fourth.  Pangrazio dropped to fifth at the finish in his first Tour start since September 3, 2023 at Tyler County Speedway.   3C Graphix Rookie-of-the-Year contender, Bill Holmes III, turned in his best finish of the season in sixth at his home track after starting 10th.  Jason Knowles went 12th to 7th.  Austin Allen dropped from the third starting spot to eighth at the finish, but received a spoiler kit from Ontime Body & Graphic.  After a tough stretch of races, Demetrios Drellos went 18th to 9th to regain the points lead in the 3C Graphix Rookie-of-the-Year standings.  Austin Hauser was 10th for his second top 10 of the season.  Bud Watson went 26th to 15th to earn the $50 Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger gift card.

 

Davis earned his first FK Rod Ends “Shock the Clock” Qualifying fast time award, worth $100, with his lap of 17.328 over the 27-car field.  Davis, Mike Wonderling, and Allen added another $25 by winning the FK Rod Ends heat races.  Homan won his first Sunoco Dash of the season and received a $100 Sunoco Fuel card.  Also receiving $100 Sunoco Fuel cards in the random drawings were Tour racers, Jeremy Wonderling and Ben Easler.  The $50 Sunoco Fuel cards were captured by Holmes, Pangrazio, Dave DuBois, and Jimmy Johnson.

 

Landrum Performance Springs, which will award the $5,000 Loyalty Bonus to an eligible Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Touring Series regular at the season ending event, distributed BOGO certificates, which were captured by Jon Rivers, Hardy, Chuck LaFleur, Zack Carley, and Knowles.

 

The Flynn’s Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series will return to action this Saturday night (July 26) at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa. for the $6,010 to-win “Jook George Steel City Classic”.  Warmups begin at 6 p.m. followed by qualifying and racing.
