MICHAEL NORRIS WINS $6010 "JOOK GEORGE STEEL CITY CLASSSIC" FOR THE 5TH TIME IN 7 YEARS AT PITTSBURGH AS 49 CARS COMPETE; NORRIS BECOMES SEASON'S 7TH DIFFERENT HOVIS RUSH LATE MODEL FLYNN'S TIRE/GUNTER'S HONEY TOUR WINNER IN 8 RACES

(Imperial, PA)...The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Dirt Late Model Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series visited Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway on a beautiful Saturday evening for the first visit of the season to "Dirt's Monster Half-Mile".  Race #8 attracted a season high 49 cars for the 37th annual "Jook George Steel City Classic".  Special thanks to event coordinator, Branden Lockwich, for all his work as between himself, the event sponsors, and added bonuses by PPMS, approximately $20,000 in cash was added to the standard Tour purse plus additional contingencies!  The event was streamed live by DIRT.tv.

The "Jook George Steel City Classic" has become a personal ATM for Michael Norris.  After an early duel with Kyle Lukon, Norris regained the lead for good on lap eight and led the remainder of the 40-lap feature for his fifth event win in the last seven years!  Norris earned $6,010 bringing his total to more than $34,000 for his five event victories alone!  In total, Norris won more than $6,500 for his night's accomplishments.  Norris became the seventh different winner in eight Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series events this season.

"It's huge to win this race," acknowledged the 34-year-old Sarver, Pa. standout from Landrum Performance Springs Victory Lane.  "I have to thank Branden (Lockwich).  He does such a great job, puts a lot of effort into this, and tries different things every year to make it better and get more people here.  We'll keep supporting it as long as they keep having it."

"When this track is like this- it's so much fun and you can race all over it," Norris explained.  "They did a great job on it tonight.  I have to think Nico (Dabecco) and Vinny.  We really changed the car a lot from the Firecracker (Lernerville Speedway June 27) and found some things we needed to address.  I want to dedicate this win to my grandma and grandpa; we lost them this year and miss them a lot- this one is for them.  My pap would always say I want you to go down there and show them how it's done and I showed them how it's done for him.  Thanks to all the fans for coming out and Blair (Cress) for keeping this place open." 

Lukon and Norris led the 26-car field to green as Norris led the opening lap.  The duo battled side-by-side for the lead on lap two with Lukon taking the top spot nosing ahead off the bottom of turn four.  Zach Gunn and Joe Martin slowed at opposite ends of the speedway to bring out the caution with three laps scored.  When racing resumed, Lukon took off in the IllusionCoats Powder Coating Firing Zone and by lap six, Lukon and Norris distanced themselves from the field.

Norris' winning move came from a slider in turn three to lead lap eight.  Norris built up an advantage over Lukon by 1.2 seconds when he caught lapped traffic on lap 14.  Lukon got into the fence on lap 15; this allowed Norris to pull away and Dan Angelicchio to catch Lukon in the battle for second.  Lukon slowed to bring out the caution with 22 laps scored after getting into wall for the second time.  Lukon was credited with the Close Racing Supply "Tough Break of the Night" distinction and receive a $100 Close Racing Supply gift card.

This moved Angelicchio alongside Norris on the double-file restart, but Norris quickly regained his advantage following the event's final caution.  Demetrios Drellos was able to drive around Angelicchio on the outside to take over the runner-up spot when racing resumed on lap 23.  Drellos kept pace with Angelicchio over the final 18 laps, but was never able to get close enough to challenge in lapped traffic. 

At the finish, Norris crossed the line first by 1.794 seconds in the ND Motorsports/Ingram Engines/Rocket Chassis/Millerstown Pic-A-Part/D&D Auto Salvage/Weather Capital Sales Weather Capital Sales/Henry's Headers-sponsored #N1 for his ninth career Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Tour victory with seven of them coming at PPMS and the other two in the "Steel City Stampede" at Lernerville Speedway.

Drellos earned $3,000 for his runner-up as he's now finished in the top 10 in all eight Tour events this season to maintain runner-up in points.  Drellos also received a $100 bonus for running fourth on lap four from Smitty & Turn 4 Fans.  "I thought in lapped traffic there was some hope but I don't think I had anything for him," acknowledged the 29-year-old Queensbury, NY racer.  "I was a good second place car.  He was really good down in (turns) three and four and I was a little bit off.  Either way, it was a really good race; enjoyed it and love coming here.  I think the Modified experience helps.  I like the big tracks and everyone knows that."

Angelicchio withstood the challenges in the final laps by Christian Schneider to garner third for $2,000, which was his best Tour finish since a runner-up at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex nearly 13 years ago on September 28, 2013.  "It's been awhile since I've raced 40 laps," revealed the 38-year-old Mt. Pleasant. Pa. resident.  "The car wasn't bad, but we missed it by a little bit.  We pulled the Super Late Model engine out and put the crate in.  I had to make some changes after hot laps as I wasn't very good.  Christian (Schneider) slid up in front of me and I got a heck of a run off the top; he seemed upset with me, but I thought it was pretty clean.  We'll see you at Marion Center (Raceway) in two weeks."

An excellent battle took place for fourth between four different racers over the final 18-lap run to the finish.  In the end, it was 16th starting Schneider taking the position after getting by Jeremy Wonderling with six to go.  Schneider earned $1,500 for fourth plus $250 cash from Altvater Visuals Photography and Zach Gunn and a $100 Big Daddy's Speed Center/Hoosier Tire Western PA gift card for being the event's hard charger.  In addition, Schneider came out on top of the "Race Within the Jook" for a $1,000 bonus from Point Spring & Driveshaft!  Schneider now moves into sole possession of third place in Tour points and atop the $3,000 to-win 3C Graphix Rookie-of-the-Year standings.

Wonderling earned $1,300 as he went 10th to 5th for his seventh top five in eight races to maintain the lead in the $20,000 to-win Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Tour championship.  Delaware standout, Trevor Collins, was sixth for $1,250 and earned the $250 "Rookie of the Jook" from Wayne & Fort Cherry Auto Service.  Dylan Cecce started 15th and worked his way to 4th on lap 25, but faded over the final 15 laps to a 7th place finish worth $1,150 plus a $107 bonus from Jake Gunn in memory of Dave and Mary Lynn Nicholas.

Daryl Charlier went 13th to 8th for his 5th top 10 of the season and garnered $1,100 plus a spoiler kit from Ontime Body & Graphic.  Jake Gunn was ninth for $1,050.  Female racer, Amanda Robinson, made the tow in from Delaware for her second Tour start of the season and was a respectable 10th after starting 17th to earn $1,000. 

After running second for the first 14 laps of the Real Merchant Services DMV Non-Qualifier, a caution for a slowing Jake Billyk was just what Kyle Zimmerman needed.  The 43-year-old Albion, Pa. driver of the Jonathan Stockdale-owned, Kuhnle Brothers Trucking-sponsored #101 used the momentum off the outside of the track to power past Brodie Oravetz to win the one-lap dash to the checkered and the $500 payday.  It was Zimmerman's second career Non-Qualifier victory.  Bill Holmes III also got by Oravetz on the final lap for second.  After missing the feature by one-spot to earn the $50 Holley Performance gift card and leading the first 14 laps of the Non-Qualifier, Oravetz was a disappointing third.  Anthony Monteparte went seventh to fourth.  Jackson Billyk completed the top five.    

Marino Angelicchio started off the night fastest in Schneider Hot Laps with a 19.098 to earn $50.  Norris set fast time overall against the 49-car field in FK Rod Ends "Shock the Clock" Qualifying with a 19.249 and earned $250 thanks to Kurt Thompson Realtor, FK Rod Ends, and Lockwich.  Brandon Burgoon was fastest in the other flight and received $150 thanks to Thompson and Lockwich.      

Winning the six FK Rod Ends heat races were Norris, Drellos, Martin, Burgoon, Dan Angelicchio, and Kyle Lukon.  Thanks to Mike's Auto Repair & Sales, the heat race winners received $100 in addition to $25 from FK.

Lukon became the seventh different Sunoco Dash winner in eight races this season.  Lukon not only received a $100 Sunoco fuel card, but $404 cash from Zarin Truck & Auto and the Beatty Family in memory of John Beatty.  The remainder of the dash finishers shared in an additional $375.  The last chance B mains were won by Michael Reft, Zach Gunn, and Ben Easler.  Reft and Gunn received $250 Russ King Racing gift certificates, while Easler received $50 cash and a $100 Close Racing Supply gift card. 

Two "Jook Jackpot" drawings took place this year for teams that financially contributed to the event.  Clinton Hersh won the $1,000 grand prize contributed by Lockwich and PPMS, while Easler won the $500 drawing from PPMS!

The "Fill'er up with Sunoco Bucks" presented by Bazell Race Fuels saw Tour drivers Charlier and Kurt Stebbins win $100 fuel cars, while the $50 fuel cards went to Jackson Billyk, Tim Shaffer, Tony Musolino, and Jacob Billyk ($50).

Henry's Headers & Exhaust Systems awarded a $500 certificate towards the purchase of stainless steel Crate Late Model Henry's headers in a random drawing won by Jason Knowles, which is part of the Tour's Loyalty Program.

Landrum Performance Springs, which will award a $5,000 Loyalty Bonus at the season ending event, distributed BOGO certificates that were won by Chuck Recker, Knowles, Robinson, Rob Coffaro, and Schneider.

The Flynn’s Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series will return to action August 8-9 for a western Pa. doubleheader.  Saturday night will be the return to Marion Center Raceway for the first time in two years, while Sunday night will be the second and final visit to Eriez Speedway for "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance.  Both events will pay $4,000 to-win.
