(Erie, PA)...The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Dirt Late Model Flynn's Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series returned to Eriez Speedway for the second and final time of the 2026 season on a beautiful Sunday evening.  An event record 59 cars turned out for the annual "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance, which saw more than $37,000 in valuable product contingencies distributed!  In addition, it was also "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance for the RUSH Stock Cars as 16 drivers shared in $9,000 of valuable products bringing the total distributed to the two divisions to more than $46,000!

 

Dave Hess, Jr. completed the rare perfect night on Sunday at Eriez.  Hess was fastest in Schneider Hot Laps, set fast time overall in FK Rod Ends Qualifying, won his FK Rod Ends Heat, captured the Sunoco Dash, and then led all 30 laps of the feature holding off a late challenge from Demetrios Drellos to reach Landrum Performance Springs Victory Lane.  Hess became the eighth different Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Touring Series winner in nine events held this season with his second consecutive win on “Manufacturers Night” at Eriez.  In total, Hess won $4,175 along with four VB standard coil springs from Landrum Performance Springs, 8.5 mm Super Conductor Wires from MSD Performance, and $150 in Sunoco fuel cards!

 

“I always say these (Tour) races are just as tough as any of the Super (Late Model) races we run so to come out here and get a win means just as much as it does to win any of those,” stated the 42-year-old Waterford, Pa. standout.  “There are a lot of young guys that are tough.  I’m used to chasing a 111 around or him (Max Blair) chasing me, but this is a different one (Drellos) and he keeps getting better along with these other kids and veterans; it’s just a tough field of cars.  When there’s damn near 60 cars, it feels great to have a night like we did.  I don’t know how many more years I’m going to be able to hold these young guys off so we’ll take it while we can.”

 

Hess rocketed into the lead over Jake Wilber at the start of the 30-lap feature and quickly pulled away from the pack by lap three.  The battle was on for third between Breyton Santee and Drellos as the duo swapped the spot back and forth.  Hess opened up a big lead of 4.1 seconds when he caught lapped traffic on lap seven; however, was able to narrowly avoid a melee in front of him that saw Brodie Oravetz suffer a big hit after contact with Austin Allen.  Oravetz was selected as the Close Racing Supply “Tough Break of the Night” recipient and received a $100 CRS gift card. 

 

When racing resumed, Hess took off in the IllusionCoats Powder Coating “Firing Zone”, while Drellos drove around Santee for third.  Drellos then went to work on Wilber in the battle for second on lap 11 before a caution for Brendan Warner.  When green replaced yellow on lap 12, Drellos slipped under and past Wilber for second.  By the halfway point, Hess and Drellos pulled away from the field.  As the laps ticked off, Drellos closed in on Hess by lap 20, while the battle was on for third as Wilber was trying to fend off Santee, Jeremy Wonderling, and Zack Carley.

 

Drellos, who was on the harder Hoosier Tire compound, appeared to be set to challenge Hess for the lead, but a pair of cautions on laps 22 and 23 slowed action.  The clear track and short seven-lap sprint to the finish was just what Hess needed as he was able to keep Drellos at bay by 0.838 seconds when the checkered flag waved.  Hess’ third career Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Tour victory came in the Alex Anderson-owned, IllusionCoats Powder Coating/Close Racing Supply/Furniture Towne/Anderson Motorsports Stables/Martin Dynamics/Sanger Investments/Lakefront Renovations/D. Woodard Engineering/Adkins Diversified-sponsored 44.

 

“This car has been awesome,” acknowledged Hess.  “Thanks to Alex (Anderson) and all his help for putting this car behind me.  It seems like everywhere we’ve went we’ve been quick time even when I felt like I didn’t make the best lap- this thing just has a ton of speed.  Thanks to everyone on this car that does so much for us, the RUSH Series, my fans, and the Alexanders for giving us a great race track on Sunday nights.”

 

Drellos earned $2,000 for his second straight runner-up finish as he’s now finished in the top 10 in all nine Tour events this season to remain second in points.  “We gambled putting the hard tire on and it paid off in those long runs,” revealed the 29-year-old Queensbury, NY driver.  “I just wish those cautions didn’t come out at the end.  I think we might have had something for him (Hess) on the long run, but Dave is good; I’m not going to complain getting second to him.  The track had some character- it was an exceptional racing surface and made for good racing.  It’s like that almost every time we come here so I’m starting to like this place and it’s been fun.”

 

Santee, 28 of North Kingsville, Ohio, recorded his career best Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Tour finish in third for $1,000.  Santee’s prior best Tour finish was a fifth on three occasions with the most recent coming on September 23, 2022 at The Dirt Track at Genesee.  Wilber held on to fourth for his best Tour finish of the season.  Tour rookie, Kurt Stebbins, went 14th to 5th matching his best finish of the season, which has now occurred three times. 

 

Carley turned in his best Tour performance of the season in sixth after starting ninth.  Christian Schneider came from 20th to finish 7th as he earned the Big Daddy’s Speed Center/Hoosier Tire Western PA Hard Charger for the second straight race and received a $100 gift card.  After a slow start to the season, Schneider has reeled off seven consecutive top 10 finishes as he continues to lead the $3,000 to-win 3C Graphix Rookie-of-the-Year standings.   

 

Wonderling was eighth for just his second finish outside the top five this season as he continues to lead the $20,000 to-win Flynn’s Tire/Gunter’s Honey Tour points in search of his unprecedented sixth Series title.  Jason Knowles was ninth and received a spoiler kit from Ontime Body & Graphic.  Daryl Charlier raced from 16th to 10th for his sixth top 10 of the season as he trails Stebbins by just one-point for fourth in points.

 

Fresh off his sixth Colussy Chevrolet Weekly Series win of the season at Dog Hollow Speedway on Friday night, Tom Snyder, Jr. led all 10 laps of the Real Merchant Services DMV Non-Qualifier.  The Mayport, Pa. driver earned $200 on his 55th birthday aboard his T&D Performance/Moyer & Sons Woodworking/Tuff Nuts Body Fasteners/Ringgold Tire/Freedline Auto-sponsored #10s.  Snyder became the amazing 92nd different winner in 117 races run all-time!  Sixty-year-old Ward Schell was second and also received a $50 Holley Performance gift card for being the first feature non-qualifier.  Steve Hollabaugh, 57, went fifth to third beating out 61-year-old Steve Blodgett.  After the top four finishers were all 55 years of age or older, 15-year-old Wyatt White was fifth. 

 

Hess earned $50 for being fastest in Schneider Trucks Hot Laps with a lap of 16.292.  Hess would go on to set fast time overall against the 59-car field in FK Rod Ends “Shock the Clock” Qualifying with a lap of 16.270 to earn $100 for the third time this season.  Hess then joined Drellos, Warner, Wilber, Santee, and Ben Easler as $25 FK Rod Ends heat race winners.  The three last chance B mains were won by Jacob Peterson, Schneider, and Logen Lockhart.  Hess won his second Sunoco Dash of the season for a $100 fuel card.

 

The "Fill'er up with Sunoco Bucks" presented by Bazell Race Fuels saw Tour drivers Wonderling and Knowles win $100 fuel cars, while the $50 fuel cards went to Hess, Jason Genco, Khole Wanzer, and Blodgett.

 

The second Capital Contracting Service "Allegiance Rewards" drawings were held for Touring member drivers that competed in 75% of the completed events and were won by Drellos ($300), Ashton Briggs ($200), and Allen ($100).

 

Landrum Performance Springs, which will award a $5,000 Loyalty Bonus at the season ending event, distributed BOGO certificates that were won by Kyle Adkins, Dusty Waters, Andrew Chess, Austin Fitzgerald, and Schneider.

 

Russ King Racing Futures Cup racer, Logan Stockdale, was the winner of the grand prize during the “Manufacturers Night” presented by MSD Performance drawings, which was Henry's Headers stainless 604 headers, mufflers, extensions, turndowns, and gaskets valued at $2,000!

 

Longtime RUSH Late Model fan, Dave Sonney, conducted a drawing in memory of his daughter Aubrey, who tragically lost her life in an automobile accident in 2015.  The winner was Wesley McCray, who received $333 cash.  McCray was the 58th of 59 drivers to draw and selected the winning #33 chip, which represented Aubrey’s number in high school basketball.  McCray also won a Holley 4150 LTS Aluminum Ultra XP 650 CFM Carburetor valued at $1,350 during the “Manufacturers Night” drawings. 

 

The 59 cars topped the prior “Manufacturers Night” record car count of 58 that was achieved in 2016 at Tri-City Raceway Park, and was second to the all-time record RUSH Racing Series car count of 62, which was set at the 2025 “Bill Emig Memorial” presented by Sunoco Race Fuels at Lernerville Speedway.

 

Pending any make-up dates, the Flynn’s Tire/Gunter's Honey Touring Series will return to action on Sunday, September 6 at Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pa. for a $4,000 to-win Platinum Event.
