FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)…The Sweeney
Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Racing Series powered by Pace Performance held its
fifth annual Authorized Engine Rebuilder Facility Seminar on Saturday (November
10) at the Hampton Inn & Suites Grove City (PA). Attendance to this
meeting was again "mandated" for those facilities authorized to rebuild engines
for the RUSH Late Models, Sprint Cars, Sportsman Modifieds, Pro Mods, Pro
Stocks, and Asphalt Series. Engine facilities from several states
including new 2018 rebuilders Eagle Racing Engines from Knoxville, Tennessee and
Conklin Racing Engines from Morrisdale, Pa. plus two rebuilders from Ontario,
Canada were on hand.
The seminar
started at 11 a.m. and continued until nearly 4 p.m. with a break for lunch.
Sweeney RUSH Series Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone organized the meeting;
however, a panel led the seminar including RUSH Competition Director Travis
Harry, Pace Performance Circle Track Director Don Blackshear, and authorized
engine rebuilder Mike Ingram.
General topics
included the rebuilders hand guide, sealing process, along with the teching and
teardown procedures focusing around the mandated GM 604 and 602 crate engines.
Other topics of discussion included awareness of responsibilities of the
authorized rebuilders to the Series and its racers, the utilization of
networking amongst their rebuilder peers and Series officials, the importance of
understanding and staying true to the GM Technical Manual, and
specifics related to the engine protest and Series confiscation
procedure.
“There is no
question that that the integrity of any healthy crate racing series lies in its
teching and rebuild programs," stated Emig. "With that said, it’s our
belief to mandate attendance for those that are authorized to rebuild or
repair GM crate engines that will be competing throughout our region under the
RUSH banner. This meeting is an
intricate part of the RUSH system that has helped us to keep the competition
level as strong as it is throughout the Series, and may be one of its only kind
in the country . We have to thank all of our authorized rebuilders for taking
time out of their busy schedules to attend; several traveled between five to
eight hours each way."
"We're all a team,
from the racers to the Series officials, to the Authorized Rebuilders," said
RUSH competition director Travis Harry. "It's great that we can all gather
in one location annually to review things to ensure that everyone stays on the
same page. Some of the newer authorized rebuilders had the opportunity to
interact with some of those that have been involved for several years in a much
more relaxed environment than at the race track.
It also gives all of us the opportunity to speak face-to-face with those
we that we talk to throughout the year via phone, e-mail or brief encounters at
the speedway."
A few of the
rebuilders were excused for health related issues, a death in the family, and
other personal reasons. These
rebuilders will be versed and caught up to speed by the Series and at another
rebuilder that was in attendance in order to be re-authorized.
The next event for
the Sweeney RUSH Series will be the annual awards banquet and dinner on
Saturday, January 26, held at Gatherings Banquet & Event Center in Edinburg, Pa.
Ticket order forms will be available in
December.
