$30,000 IN PRODUCTS & CONTINGENCIES AWARDED TO 40 RACERS AS PART OF SWEENEY RUSH “MANUFACTURERES NIGHT” AT PITTSBURGH ON AUGUST 31

By Mike Leone

September 5, 2013                    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…It seemed that Christmas came a bit early this past Saturday night (August 31) as the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Dirt Late Model Touring Series rolled into Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway and distributed some $30,000 in actual product and contingencies as part of the “Manufactures Night”.  Forty drivers from all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Maryland turned out matching the season high from the Speedweek event on July 13 at Pittsburgh.  Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. came out on top as the $1,500 feature winner for his first career tour victory.  All told with prize money, approximately $40,000 in cash and prizes were distributed!  (Note: A complete list of the prizes and winners is posted below.)

“This was an awesome event in all aspects,” stated RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “Every racer went home with a valuable product and some were lucky enough to receive multiple items!  The number of manufacturers that participated in this year’s event was tremendous and is testament to their belief in the Series, its racers, and sanctioned speedways.  Add in the excitement of the great racing that took place with Tommy Schirnhofer coming from 13th for his Series first win by holding off a hard charging Ryan Montgomery from the tail, and the 2013 edition of “Mfg. Night” is one that we will all fondly remember!  I know we can build upon all of strong support we received from all of the companies that participated and make 2014’s event even bigger and better!”

Drivers drew for the prizes in a reverse order of the pill draw, meaning the driver that drew the worst pill for his heat race assignment drew first.  The 10 remaining prizes that were left were awarded to the corresponding finish at the end of the night.  The prizes were valued anywhere from $250 up to $1,800!

Every competing driver earned over $250 in prizes in addition to their race earnings!  Each driver also received a t-shirt from Wylie Race Cars.  Keizer Aluminum Wheels awarded each of the bottom 20 feature finishers a $50 certificate toward the purchase of a wheel.  So those 20 drivers left with a minimum of $300 in prizes!

Ironically, the night’s two biggest prizes went to the two drivers that made from the Maryland eastern shore with Scott Tessman winning the four F3 Tornado “Anniversary Edition” Brake Calipers valued at $1,800 and Cody Dawson capturing the ATL 32-Gallon Dirt Late Model “Sports” Fuel Cell valued at $1,100.  It didn’t end there for those lucky two racers as Dawson also won a complete set of 4130 Black FK Rod Ends ($500) and Tessman won a pair of Hoosier Crate Racin USA tires ($300)!  Both also received a $50 certificate toward the purchase of a Keizer Aluminum Wheel!  Dawson left with prizes totaling $1,650, while Dawson garnered $1,550 in prizes!

Everyone felt terrible for Adam Sixt, who made a four-hour trip in his maiden voyage to Pittsburgh and his night ended after a hard crash in warm-ups.  The Chaffee, New York northern star didn’t leave empty-handed though as he won a $250 High Performance Starter from Powers Performance, a $250 TurboStart 16-Volt Racing Battery, a $50 fuel card, free artwork on purchase of apparel package from Speedwrapz ($200 value), and $50 off a Keizer Aluminum Wheel!

In addition, Series Officials awarded Sixt with The Brake Man’s “Tough Brake of the Night” worth three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid ($45 value) along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase.  Sixt’s prize value totaled nearly $1,000!

Justin Smith is another northern racer that predominately competes at the McKean County Raceway, who also made his first ever visit to Pittsburgh on Saturday night.  Smith won a complete set of Hoosier Crate Racin USA Tires valued at $600 and also a $50 certificate toward the purchase of a Keizer Aluminum Wheel!

Rocky Kugel was one happy racer.  Not only did he turn in his career best tour finish in fourth, but won a complete set of Beyea Crate Racing Headers valued at $800 as well as $50 off of a ARbodies nose combo kit!

Mark Moats, Jr. was coming off of a career best tour finish at the July 13 Speedweek event at Pittsburgh, but his night didn’t go as planned as he got caught up in a hard crash with Laura Lukon.  Moats though left as one of the top prize winners garnering his choice of a Yamaha PSW3028, 3000 psi Pressure Washer ($750 value) or a $500 gift certificate toward purchase of new or used generator, generator repair or maintenance services from Alternative Power Sources, a package of six sheets of aluminum from Wrisco plus one air rivet gun, rivet & body bolts from Wylie Race Cars ($540), and 50% off set of 4, 60-Series Shocks & C/O Kits from BSB Manufacturing ($760 value)!  Moats’ prize value totaled more than $2,000!

Matt Latta was running in the top four of the event until exiting at the halfway point.  His prizes though included a certificate for a drum of fuel from Cresap Automotive valued at $700 along with a K&N Cold Induction System valued at up to $500 and a $50 certificate toward the purchase of a Keizer Aluminum Wheel!  Though his night on the track ended prematurely and disappointing, his prizes totaled $1,250.

We have to thank the following Hoosier Tire Distributors along with an anonymous person who each donated a pair of Crate Racin USA Tires valued at $300: Big Daddy’s Speed Center, Bubba’s Racing Supply, Close Racing Supply, High Gear Speed Shop, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Imperial Heights Garage, and Wedge Motorsports.

The Sweeney RUSH Touring Series will hold another similar event as part of the $2,000 to-win “Bill Hendren Memorial” at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex September 27-28.  More information on this exciting event will be announced in the near future.
