SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL SERIES ANNOUNCES “MID-ATLANTIC TRIFECTA WEEKEND” FEATURING $2,000 TO-WIN EVENTS AT HAGERSTOWN, ROARING KNOB & THE ROCK JUNE 21-23
By Mike Leone

December 28, 2012                FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…On the heels of signing the seventh weekly-sanctioned speedway under the new Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Series banner, directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone are thrilled to announce one of the biggest weekends of the season will take place June 21-23, 2013.  Hagerstown Speedway, Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, and “The Rock” – Allegany County Speedway will host successive $2,000 to-win Touring Series events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively as part of the “Mid-Atlantic Trifecta Weekend”!

“This is going to be a tremendous weekend,” expressed Emig.  “Hagerstown contacted us about hosting a second touring event and we still hadn’t placed a Roaring Knob-Rock weekend on the schedule so the pieces fell into place perfectly.  We really have to thank Lisa Plessinger for believing in our Series and giving Crate Late Models an opportunity to race twice at the renowned Hagerstown Speedway.  Rick Jones is always open to new ideas and concepts surrounding touring events and the willingness of both Lisa and Rick to work together has already made a huge impact and created a great amount of interest in Crate Late Model racing throughout the eastern corridor.”

One of the initial major announcements by the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Series was the joining with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for two nights of Touring Series competition at Roaring Knob and Hagerstown on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.  This Roaring Knob event will also pay $2,000 to-win, while the first ever Crate Late Model race at Hagerstown will pay $2,500 to-win, $250 to-start as part of the “Battle Down the National Pike”.  There will also be $1,200 in travel money for grabs.

Roaring Knob will be beginning its fifth season of hosting weekly Crate Late Model racing at the Saturday night Markleysburg, PA oval.  Owner/promoter Rick Jones has moved his sister speedway “The Rock” Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD to Sundays in 2013 and will be running the Crate Late Models weekly for the first time ever- of course under the RUSH banner.

Known as “The Capital of Dirt Track Racing”, Hagerstown has a rich history and is nationally-known and one of the most popular speedways in the entire Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.  Hagerstown touts itself as “a true ½-mile track with straightaways over 900 ft. long & 70 ft. wide.  The track is 90 feet wide in the turns.  The racing surface is made of the finest red clay in the nation. The smooth, wide surface makes Hagerstown Speedway one of the fastest and safest dirt tracks in the U.S. on which to race.”

“The amount of excitement that’s been generated around The Rock adding Crate Late Models and the big spring event at Hagerstown has been huge,” explained Leone.  “We believe that these two important initial announcements, the addition of the substantial ‘Trifecta Weekend’ along with the fact that racers in this part of the region now being able to more easily take part in our point funds will all be an important catalyst for the development of Crate Late Model racing throughout the Mid-Atlantic and eastern part of the region.  We’re hoping the early release of the ‘Trifecta Weekend’ gives even more incentive to racers that are on the fence about making the move.”

More details around the weekend will be announced in the near future.  In the meantime, information on these three speedways can be found at www.hagerstownspeedway.com,  www.roaringknob.com, and www.therockspeedway.com.

The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series schedule is in the process of being finalized.  The full slate of events will be announced later in January.
