KYLE LUKON ENDS 6-YEAR SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL TOUR WINLESS DROUGHT CAPTURING THE "HERB SCOTT MEMORIAL" AT PITTSBURGH; LUKON EARNS OVER $3400 IN CASH & PRODUCTS; OVER $30,000 OF PRODUCTS DISTRIBUTED ON "MANUFACTURERS NIGHT" PRESENTED BY MSD

By Mike Leone July 20, 2019

(Imperial, PA)...The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series presented by Pace Performance headed to Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway on Saturday night for the first of three appearances of 2019 at dirt's "Monster Half-Mile". It was a sultry evening with temps in the low 90s and high humidity for the annual "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance that was rescheduled after the June 29 show was rained out. Over $30,000 of valuable, useful products were distributed during intermission to the competing drivers. There were 55 drawings for product packages valued at a minimum of $300 with over half of the drivers winning two packages! RUSH also held the travelling "Manufacturers Night" on May 26 at Potomac Speedway; all told, over $50,000 in product contingencies will be awarded to Late Model racers in 2019!

Nothing like some good old fashioned home cooking. On Saturday night, Kyle Lukon returned home to the track that has treated him so well over the years- 34 wins in fact; however, the nearby Burgettstown, Pa. resident hadn't made a start at the "Monster Half-Mile" since October 7, 2017. Lukon hadn't won a Sweeney RUSH Tour race in over six years with ironically his last win coming at PPMS on July 13, 2013. That six year winless drought ended on Saturday night as Lukon wrestled the lead away from Wayne Robertson on lap 19 following engine woes for early leader Jeremy Wonderling and went on for the 30-lap "Herb Scott Memorial" feature victory. Lukon earned $2,000 cash plus over $1,400 in products including a custom wrap from Ontime Body & Graphic, a drivers suit from Velocita-USA, and a Sunoco 5-Gallon Race Jug!

By Mike Leone July 1, 2019

(Imperial, PA)...Early Saturday afternoon (June 29), Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway management made the tough decision with the sun shining to call off the "Herb Scott Memorial" for the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series due to projected thunderstorms arriving early in the evening. On Saturday night, Blair didn't have the fastest car for the majority of the "Bill Emig Memorial" feature; in fact, had fell back to seventh during the second half of the 50-lap feature. NOT EVEN A TWO & A HALF HOUR RAIN DELAY AT GENESEE CAN STOP JEREMY WONDERLING AS HE FLIES TO HIS 3RD STRAIGHT SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES WIN

By Mike Leone June 1, 2019

(Batavia, NY)...The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series presented by Pace Performance made its only appearance of the year to Genesee Speedway on Saturday night. Race #6 of the 2019 season saw 28 cars from all over New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada make the trip to the Batavia, NY fairground track despite rain all around the region for much of the day that rained out most every other speedway. The four-division show started early and was pushed along fast as the RUSH Late Model feature was in the staging area when rain struck around 8 p.m. A big thank you goes out to third year promoter, Jim Johnson, who was determined to get the show in. After a solid hour of steady rain, Johnson and crew went to work and after 90 minutes of track prep, racing resumed on a fast track.

When you’re hot, you’re hot. In the last three races, defending champion Jeremy Wonderling has withstood a mid-race rain delay and torrid challenges by Jason Genco and Max Blair in lapped traffic to win at Stateline, out-dueled 2017 champion John Waters and held off a big charge by Kyle Lukon to win at Outlaw, and on Saturday night waited out a two and half hour rain delay and flew to victory on a fast Genesee track for his unprecedented third straight Sweeney Tour win. All three 30-lap $2,000 victories have come in Wonderling’s home state of New York. Wonderling has also received the Sunoco 5-Gallon Race Jug each night.

By Mike Leone May 19, 2019

(Erie, PA)...After outlasting the rain on Saturday night at Stateline Speedway for the "Bill Law Memorial", Mother Nature had the upper hand on Sunday evening at Eriez Speedway for the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series powered by Pace Performance. Some sprinkles and light showers teased fans and racers during RUSH qualifying and heat race action for Eriez's other regular divisions; however, the intensity of the rain picked up before the first RUSH heat race, which would ultimately wash out the event.

After consulting with Eriez owner Dave Alexander, the $2,000 to-win Sweeney Tour Marquee event has now been rescheduled for Sunday, June 2. This will make for a huge three-event weekend that will kick-off on Friday, May 31 at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY for the "Gary Montgomery Memorial" followed up on Saturday night at Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY, concluding with Eriez on Sunday allowing the large contingent of southwest Pennsylvania Tour teams to catch the event on the way home.

DEFENDING SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL TOUR CHAMP JEREMY WONDERLING SURVIVES MID-RACE RAIN DELAY & CHALLENGES FROM BLAIR & GENCO TO CAPTURE HIS 1ST WIN TOUR WIN OF 2019 & 2ND “BILL LAW MEMORIAL” IN 3 YEARS AT STATELINE

By Mike Leone May 15, 2019

(Busti, NY)...One month after a successful four-night “Battle of the Bay” Speedweek Mid-Atlantic swing presented by Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series presented by Pace Performance resumed action on Saturday night for the season’s only appearance at Stateline Speedway located just across the Pennsylvania border in Busti, NY. The “Bill Law Memorial” marked just the third ever appearance by the Sweeney Tour at Stateline, and the 33-car turnout was a high watermark. The event paid tribute to the late Law, who had the first Crate Late Model in the Northeast more than 12 years ago. Law was a huge supporter of racing in the region and helped kick-start the racing career of his grandson, Kyle Murray, who currently competes in a RUSH Late Model.

Defending Sweeney Tour champion, Jeremy Wonderling, withstood the pressure by two of the Northeast’s best in Max Blair and Jason Genco through lapped traffic and survived a mid-race rain delay to capture his first Tour victory of the season. For Wonderling, it was his second “Bill Law Memorial” victory in the past three years at Stateline. Wonderling earned $2,000 and received one of the new Sunoco 5-Gallon Race Jug.
